First
On June 13, 2025, at 8:05am, I’ll turn 49.
That day I’ll record and upload a video to YouTube. And I’ll continue to do that, every day, for the next 364 days, with the basic premise being to record myself turning 50 in real time.
Is this an art project? My attempt to become an aging influencer? A cry for help? Why not all three!
If that interests you in any way you can follow along at The Second Best Time. I’ll even explain the title in the first video.
I’ll mention this in the first newsletter of season 3 and then never mention it again. That’s a promise you can take to the bank.
Second
Here’s a calendar where you can book a slot to talk to me.
Sometimes people want to talk to me about something I’ve written. Or about my career. Or about divorce and when you feel you’ve made all the bad choices a person can make in one lifetime does that mean my life is over because it feels over.
Maybe that someone is you. I mean, if it isn’t you then you can skip to “Three”. But if it is you, here’s a hopefully non-awkward way to make it happen. I should point out the very obvious proviso that I am not a professionally-certified talker person.
What would we chat about? Literally anything.Experience has shown me the benefits of talking to someone who doesn’t know you but nonetheless has some kind of vested interest in listening to you. Usually we secure this monetarily—I’m very pro-paying someone to listen to you, especially someone with those professional qualifications.
And then sometimes you tell a bartender your life story.
I’m not going to sell you on this, which I mean both ways. I just thought this is the exact opposite of anything Elon Musk would do, and you’d be surprised how much that kind of framing guides me.
Once again, here’s that link.
Three
There really isn’t a third thing, but two things felt imbalanced. Here’s an amazing illustration Marija did of David and I playing records in front of Mt. Fuji.
